FOXTEL brings the app to your desktop

FOXTEL Gadget - Browsing EPG

FOXTEL have a fantastic iPhone application which allows you to search the program guide, browse channels, set reminders and – if you are  a foxtel user – even set programs to record remotely even when you are no-where near your Foxtel box!

It’s such a handy thing if you have Foxtel IQ and suddenly remember that show you wanted to watch but forgot to record! With the iPhone app you can ‘hit record’ no matter where you are.

At the same time, Foxtel have a fantastic website version of their Guide, which also – if logged in – allowed you to record programs from any internet connected PC.

Today, FOXTEL announced an extension of that app/site… read on for more information

Seven’s new Channel means another shift in HD programming

August 19, 2010 Opinion, TV View Comments
7mate

The Seven Network today announced they will launch a ‘third’ channel on Digital TV in late September – Named ’7mate’

According to the press release, republished at Mumbrella, the channel will commence with a broadcast of the AFL Grand Final in HD.

There’s a stack of content on offer – like “New episodes of FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, PARKS AND RECREATION and LAST COMIC STANDING will lead the primetime comedy schedule. 3O ROCK, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THAT 70’S SHOW, SCRUBS and CRANK YANKERS round out the laughs.” – however, what I find interesting is the decision once again to remove HD from the ‘main’ channel – just like the ABC has done

Election 2010 – Technology’s Role in the Coverage

August 19, 2010 Opinion, TV View Comments
nineelection

Leaving aside the standard technology which we often take for granted (TV Cameras, Broadcast Satellite, Radio ISDN technology), this could be a great year for watching the Election – as boring as it might be given the nothingness of the campaign, we are in for a real treat when it comes to the coverage.

At the recent General Elections in the UK, the BBC among others went absolutely tech mad – it was fantastic.  I can recall the use of Holograms by CNN or the BBC (I can’t remember) during the US Elections, but for the BBC in the UK election the key tech was the touch screen interface to a big screen TV, and also a ‘white room’ which was totally interactive.

3D TV – I’ve watched it.. Here’s what I think.

Since 3D TV arrived in Australia a month or so ago, I’ve resisted watching any of the demo programs offered by the TV companies, knowing they were custom built for the sets.

What I wanted to do was experience a big event, a sports event in Full 3D and get my experience to you.

Telstra continues to impress – this time on your big screen

It seems like just days ago I was at the Telstra Experience Center in Sydney City looking at Telstra’s ‘home phone revolution’ – the T-Hub .

Today, I returned, this time to see with my own eyes the Telstra T-Box and what it offers by way of Home Entertainment.

To say I was skeptical would be an understatement.  To say I was wrong would be the same.

UPDATE: Watch my new videos (July 6) of the unboxing, setup and use of the Telstra T-Box

Samsung LED TV – Slim with Extreme Connectivity

When you stand in a large electronics retail store looking at the wall of Televisions available to you, you can really only judge what you are looking for by the screen size, and the comparison of the picture quality on the movie they are screening simultaneously on each and every screen.

The latest trend in TV’s in our stores is LED – or to be more accurate LED-LCD.  These screens feature LED backlighting and are extremely thin.

Which TV for me? Plasma vs LCD vs LED (LCD) – What makes them different!

November 26, 2009 ALL, For Subscribers, Opinion, TV View Comments

Following a call to my Radio show last week from Patty, I undertook to re-educate myself on the TV Market as it stands today.

Not so long ago the options were down to Plasma vs LCD.

Today, and over the coming months, the TV buying experience is going to get much more confusing for the average buyer.

I don’t pretend to have all the knowledge, but I certainly hope this helps you understand some key points when buying your next TV. … Continue Reading
