GRUNDIG ROAM – Portable Digital Radio

September 6, 2010 Digital Radio, Reviews View Comments
The Grundig ROAM

It is safe to say I get excited with all new Digital Radio’s launched in Australia – mainly because I’ve been so close to the roll out of DAB+ Digital Radio in Australia.

In late July I brought you the news that Grundig was launching its first Handheld DAB+ Radio, the ROAM – Well, I’ve been testing it for a month, and have to say, it’s a ripper.

Not as small as it’s cousin the Bush Walker – However the Grundig ROAM offers you a few reasons to consider it. … Continue Reading

Grundig Handheld DAB+ Radio hits at $179

GRUNDIG HANDHELD DAB+

Another DAB+ Digital Radio announcement today, this time from Grundig.

The ‘ROAM’ handheld DAB is larger than the sister company BUSH’ ‘Walker’ unit I reviewed in June, and at $179 it’s a tad more expensive too.

SONY CMTFX350i DAB+ Micro Hi-Fi

With the absolute greatest of respect to the many fantastic companies in the Digital Radio market so far in Australia.  We have, for some time, lacked some big Names.

Grundig was good, Yamaha is there with a top end unit, Sanyo Hitting the market was a good boost, but today, SONY announced a new Micro Hi-Fi DAB+ radio availabe in Australia

Full details and pricing follows.

Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder – Kogan Deluxe WiFi and DAB+ Radio

KGNDVRVCA-deluxe-front

Ok, so I’m no-one to judge – given I’m not lining up for any modelling shoots any time soon. But – when I received this Deluxe WiFi Internet and DAB+ Radio from Kogan my first reaction was not great.

Looks are important when it comes to the shelf buying decision, and I wondered if with Kogan’s online only model perhaps that had gone out the window. I just wouldn’t see myself picking this from a lineup of DAB radios.

However, like many things, this has really grown on me. I’d still prefer several others for looks, but it’s the old ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ that is important here.

This is one heck of a big unit. Packing twin 30W speakers, plus a front tweeter and a subwoofer, there’s a lot to get into any size box. … Continue Reading

Bluestate DAB+ in Car Digital Radio – Tested!

IMG_3102

I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on an in-car Digital Radio that is not yet available in Australia, and I’m glad to say, it’s going to be great for DAB+ take-up in this country.

Anyone who has followed my ranting about Digital Radio since the early part of the last decade knows I’m passionate about it, and it’s certainly a known fact that in car radio listening is key to audience size, and therefore the availability of DAB+ radios in-car is crucial.

A new In-Car Digital Radio coming soon?

OXX In-Car Radio

Since August 6 2009, the only in-car Digital (DAB+) Radio has been the Pure Highway.  Not a bad radio, but pricey.

Late last year an in built car radio from BlueState (Developed in Malta) was announced, and should hit our shores very soon.

This morning however, the first pictures of another likely DAB+ candidate emerged, similar in concept to the Pure Highway, this one appears to be coming from OXX – the makers of the OXX Classic and Vantage.

UPDATE: My information is that this new unit will hit retail at under $200 – great news.

Video Review (Overview) OXX Classic Digital Radio + WiFi Internet Radio

OXX-Digital-Classic-DAB_1

I’ve long recommended the OXX Classic if you’re looking for a good quality Digital Radio.  Last week on the Webcast I had a caller in Dubbo who was looking for a WiFi radio and I recommended the OXX as one of two to check out.

Given it’s been a while since I last wrote about the OXX – I thought I’d do a video for you.

Digital Radio goes SMALL – BUSH “Walker”

I’m assuming the people at BUSH knew the play on words they were hitting when they named this new mini DAB+ radio the “Walker” – Good fun I say..

This has to be the fastest review I’ve ever written.  I received this at 10.15am, and am writing this at 10.40am.  That’s more an indication of how amazing this unit is than anything else.

The only thing I can’t write yet (but will add later as an update) is the Battery life, the people at BUSH are confident in 8hours + with Alkaline batteries which is better than i’d have hoped to be honest (the official chart shows 10hours)

UPDATE: I got just over 11 hours of continual play from the standard batteries that came with the unit.  SBS Chill tuned and playing continuously.

SANYO Digital Radios – Coming in JUNE

I mentioned some months ago that Sanyo will enter the Digital Radio (DAB+) market in Australia early this year.  Turns out the radio’s are now on the high seas heading our way.

Expect to see them in stores like Big W and Dick Smith Powerhouse TARGET in June.

OXX Vantage Digital Radio

I’ve had an OXX Digital radio for some months now, the ‘Classic‘ which is a WiFi and Ethernet and Digital Radio which is an old style yet modern looking unit, and for $299 is one of the best priced full featured radios on the market.

So, from my perspective, OXX have hit the ground running here in Australia.  This Danish company is doing everything it can to make inroads into the Australian market, and through their local man Jeremy Sedley are certainly putting the runs on the board, both with the media, Journos and retaillers.
