Simple Mobile Phones – they do still exist!

Simple Mobile Phones – they do still exist!

I was asked last week on my Radio show to suggest some simple, plain ol’ mobile phones for people who aren’t looking for an iPhone or Blackberry.

Not much to say about them other than they are still available, but you might need to shop around to get one – because they won’t be front and centre at your local phone store.. … Continue Reading

iPad – Possible Australian pricing

iPad – Possible Australian pricing

With Steve Job’s announcement of the iPad today, we’re not getting global pricing – which is interesting.  Normally products are announced globally and local prices are set.

So, we can only speculate right now.

For my mind, here’s what we’re up for: … Continue Reading

Apple sets a course for the Future of Publishing and more

Well, there has a been a lot written today already, just hours after Steve Jobs announced the iPad to the world.

Firstly, let me say – the name – it’s not the best, but then again what did we think of iPod when it came out!

Aside from that, this is a game changing device, not because it’s better than netbooks, but because it defines a new market segment.

Samsung LED TV – Slim with Extreme Connectivity

Samsung LED TV – Slim with Extreme Connectivity

When you stand in a large electronics retail store looking at the wall of Televisions available to you, you can really only judge what you are looking for by the screen size, and the comparison of the picture quality on the movie they are screening simultaneously on each and every screen.

The latest trend in TV’s in our stores is LED – or to be more accurate LED-LCD.  These screens feature LED backlighting and are extremely thin.

Google’s Nexus One – The Hype

Google’s Nexus One – The Hype

Any top quality new smart phone deserves to make news, especially in the race to become the first ‘iPhone killer’, however I thought I’d take a moment to look at the hype from the last 24 hours over the Google Phone – from an Australian perspective.

Samsung’s attempt to snare some DSLR market share

Samsung’s attempt to snare some DSLR market share

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to spend a bit of time with some people from Samsung, who offered me a sneak peek at the new Samsung NX10 Digital Camera. First Up, it’s NOT a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) – why? Because it does not have the ‘SLR’ part!

It’s impressive – I suggest Compact Camera users looking to step up consider it when shopping around. Head over to my SBS Blog read more!

Movie and TV ‘GREEN SCREEN’ effects

The ‘Green Screen’ effect which is when an actor or tv host sits in front of a green screen which is then replaced by computer technology with something else, either a backdrop in the case of newsreaders or a complex city or movie scene for actors, has come a LONG WAY.

It’s more than just a backdrop now, and this video on Youtube really shows it. … Continue Reading

Internet Filtering in Australia – Freedom restricted?

Internet Filtering in Australia – Freedom restricted?

The internet is buzzing with people using the #nocleanfeed twitter ‘hash tag’ in opposition to the Australian Federal Government’s Internet Filtering legislation which will see an ISP level filter put in place in Australia to stop access to ‘Refused Classification’ websites.

What are ‘RC’ websites? – The Government lists “child sex abuse content, bestiality, sexual violence including rape, and the detailed instruction of crime or drug use” – which frankly are obvious.  YES they should be restricted, YES they should be monitored, but is a broad sweeping Filter going to do this? No. … Continue Reading
