Your Mobile Phone, your Home phone combined?

September 6, 2010 Reviews View Comments
Uniden XDECT R Dual Mode Bluetooth Phone

I’ve had any number of different home phones, mainly cordless. And most of the time, not a great solution, poor reception, lack of features or something else always seems to make it a disappointment.

So, when Uniden released a new cordless phone, I wasn’t too excited – but then I read the fine print. This Cordless has bluetooth, and allows you to connect your mobile phone to it.. what?

The decision to test this one was a no brainer! … Continue Reading

Wireless Charging of your Smartphone – Simple – Uniden Power Pad

Uniden Power Pad

This is one of those straight out of ‘beyond 2000′ type of gadgets. I’ve been hearing about them for a few years – announced at the big electronics shows back then – but now, a genuine reality.

Before you get excited, you can’t just drop your phone on this pad/mat and let it charge – you do need a special cover.

What would be great (good luck) would be having all manufacturers accepting a single technology and building this into their phones and devices to support this and other such power chargers. But that’s a pipe dream! … Continue Reading

Taking WiFi with you – Vodafone Pocket WiFi

Vodafone Pocket WiFi

I’ve seen a lot of portable WiFi gadgets – but have struggled to understand the WHY behind WHY they are on the market.

Then I took a step back, and looked at just my own situation. At any one time, I have two devices with me that are connecting to the internet. A Smartphone and my iPad or Netbook.

Imagine then you add my Wife into the example, and we are let’s say at a hotel on holiday in another city.  This might just make a combined internet device quite valuable.

the PETE EVANS Pizza Maker from BREVILLE

Who ever thought I’d be reviewing a PIZZA MAKER – However, when looking at ideas for Fathers Day, Breville suggested this ‘Gadget’ and as a lover of Pizza and a family who loves to make a simple pizza, I thought WHY NOT!

At $140 (ok $139.95) it’s bloody good value.

It’s quite simple too – plug in, three heat modes and you’re off! … Continue Reading

GRUNDIG ROAM – Portable Digital Radio

The Grundig ROAM

It is safe to say I get excited with all new Digital Radio’s launched in Australia – mainly because I’ve been so close to the roll out of DAB+ Digital Radio in Australia.

In late July I brought you the news that Grundig was launching its first Handheld DAB+ Radio, the ROAM – Well, I’ve been testing it for a month, and have to say, it’s a ripper.

Not as small as it’s cousin the Bush Walker – However the Grundig ROAM offers you a few reasons to consider it. … Continue Reading

FOXTEL Gadget - Browsing EPG

FOXTEL have a fantastic iPhone application which allows you to search the program guide, browse channels, set reminders and – if you are  a foxtel user – even set programs to record remotely even when you are no-where near your Foxtel box!

It’s such a handy thing if you have Foxtel IQ and suddenly remember that show you wanted to watch but forgot to record! With the iPhone app you can ‘hit record’ no matter where you are.

At the same time, Foxtel have a fantastic website version of their Guide, which also – if logged in – allowed you to record programs from any internet connected PC.

Today, FOXTEL announced an extension of that app/site… read on for more information

iPhone 4 – iMovie editing on the phone

One of the key features of the iPhone 4 that sets it aside from the previous iPhone 3G and 3GS is the iMovie application.  Available for $5.99 in the App store, iMovie is the portable version of Apple’s successful Movie editing software for Mac.

With 720p video recording on the iPhone 4, what better way to make use of the videos than to edit them up and share them.

How often have you shot video and never used it.

Tonight, on my way home, I was frustrated by Traffic.  I got someone to hold the phone and shoot some basic footage.

JAYS earphones – A user review

JAYS EARPHONES

I wrote around a week ago about the JAYS earphones I’ve been testing.  Having completed my review, I thought rather than send them back – I’d give them away.

I’ve done alot so far, including a caller Paul to the podcast a week back talking Smartphones.  I asked Paul to “let me know what he thought” of the Jays – and well – he has!

Paul has written a very detailed personal review, which I thought (with his permission) I would publish below! … Continue Reading

Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder – Kogan Deluxe WiFi and DAB+ Radio

KGNDVRVCA-deluxe-front

Ok, so I’m no-one to judge – given I’m not lining up for any modelling shoots any time soon. But – when I received this Deluxe WiFi Internet and DAB+ Radio from Kogan my first reaction was not great.

Looks are important when it comes to the shelf buying decision, and I wondered if with Kogan’s online only model perhaps that had gone out the window. I just wouldn’t see myself picking this from a lineup of DAB radios.

However, like many things, this has really grown on me. I’d still prefer several others for looks, but it’s the old ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ that is important here.

This is one heck of a big unit. Packing twin 30W speakers, plus a front tweeter and a subwoofer, there’s a lot to get into any size box. … Continue Reading

JAYS Earphones – Something for everyone

JAYS EARPHONES

It’s a difficult thing for lots of people to get used to the feel of the ‘in ear’ earphones that are all the rage these days.

Until recently, all headphones were the bud kind that sat in the part of your ear just outside the ear canal, and for most that was fine.  But the outside noise they let in made the experience less than satisfactory, and for many (me included) if you worked up some pace (jog/run) they would simply fall out.

I’ve reviewed other headphones before, the Logitech Ultimate Ears range are excellent, and the Sennheiser range you’ll see in many stores are top notch – but expensive.

So, what if there were a brand that offered the same or better quality, at a price that was much more affordable?

Read on for more, and a video look at the ENTIRE range of the new JAYS earphones, now available in Australia and New Zealand.
